Athletics season gets underway for Salopians

On Saturday 23rd April, 42 members of the Athletics Squad had a successful first outing this season at Uppingham.

A busy Saturday afternoon with a strong opposition gave the athletes chance to record some impressive times and distances – as we gear up towards one of our main events - the Shropshire County Championships on the 14th May. Top results from the afternoon were our U19 Girls finishing 5th and U19 Boys finishing 4th overall.

Well done to all! For a number of pupils this was their first athletics competition - a fantastic start to the season!  

Looking ahead - this Thursday the Squad travels to Oxford for the Achilles Relays racing at Iffley Road – home of where Sir Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile. A historical venue and an event which has an excellent level of competition. We have some exceptionally quick teams heading to Iffley Road – could a sub 4-minute mile (*relay) be in reach? Watch this space!
