A Salopian will be heading stateside for university after being offered a scholarship in the USA.

Iris is the recipient of a Full Scholarship at Duke, and will be on the Track, Field and Cross Country team whilst studying for a four year degree.

Iris said: “When I started the process of investigating US universities a year ago, Duke was my dream destination. I cannot believe that I am actually signing the National Letter of Intent and will soon be a Duke Blue Devil! I am looking forward to being part of such a strong Track and Cross Country team, led by Coach Reckart and Coach Cooke. I cannot wait for the opportunity to race in the NCAA, alongside studying at such an outstanding university.”

Head of Higher Education at Shrewsbury, Toby Percival, added: “We are delighted and very proud that Iris has secured a track scholarship to Duke, which is testament to her fantastic achievements on the track, as well as her positive spirit and pursuit of excellence.

“Having visited the university myself in exeat, it is a special place with amazing facilities, inspiring faculty and coaches, and a strong sense of collegiality.  As was obvious from my conversations with students and staff out there, Duke values a student who will grasp opportunities with both hands; Iris definitely fits that mould and I am sure she will establish herself as a true Blue Devil very quickly.”

Coach Angela Reckart at Duke said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Iris as a Blue Devil.  She will be an immediate impact for us in the middle-distance events as well as cross country.  She brings great experience to Duke, having represented Great Britain in the 800m at the U20 World Championships and earning a bronze medal at the European U18 Championships.  I look forward to continuing to help her achieve greatness over the next 4-5 years!”
