ShrewsMUN sees more than 150 delegates taking part in annual competition

Last weekend, Shrewsbury School hosted its annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, welcoming over 150 delegates from nine schools.
Guided by this year’s theme, "Hopes and Dreams," delegates engaged in thought-provoking discussions on pressing global issues, from Trump's rhetoric on Canada and the Panama Canal to the deaths of humanitarian aid workers to the remit of international courts.
Congratulations to this year’s winning schools:
The Huw Peach Award for Outstanding Delegation went to Withington Girls’ School (Japan); Highly Commended to Manchester High School for Girls (DPRK); Commended to Manchester Grammar School (South Korea) and Special Mention to Cheadle Hulme School (Afghanistan).
This year’s conference was led by Co-Secretary-Generals Jade C-M (MSH, UVI) and George R (SH, LVI), assisted in leadership by Co-Deputy Secretary-Generals Matthew W (SH, LVI) and Will H (CH, UVI).
Also, the following students helped organise and lead the conference, bringing it to fruition with their hard work.
- General Assembly Chairs – George R (SH, LVI), Matthew W (SH, LVI), and Harry F (SH, LVI)
- Committee Chairs – George R (SH, LVI), Dason T (R, LVI), Harry F (SH, LVI), Matthew W (SH, LVI), Elsa L (M, V), Will H (CH, UVI), Bella S-B (MSH, LVI), Will O (CH, LVI), Tom B-B (R, LVI), Chloe L (MSH, LVI), and Kouki H (I, LVI)
Further, a special thank you goes to Eddie S (SH, LVI), Jasper H (R, LVI), and Subaru U (SH, LVI) for their efforts in the logistics and admin issues behind the scenes.
Last but most certainly not least, heartfelt gratitude must be expressed to Miss Von Kuk, Teacher-in-Charge of MUN, for her unwavering support and unfailing organisation, as well as to the teachers who generously gave up their weekend to help make this event possible. Thanks must also be given to all participating schools for their engagement and diplomacy, and, of course, the catering team for keeping everyone well-fuelled throughout the conference.
The weekend was a fantastic display of cooperation, debate, and as the Headmaster remarked in his closing ceremony speech ‘serious fun’. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another successful conference next year.
