Recently, we have celebrated the success of three students who achieved the highest award in the British Physics Olympiad Round 1 competition.

This placed them in the top 4% nationwide. This year, almost 3,800 students took part in the competition which is known for its gruelling, interesting and challenging questions. Robin Hughes from the British Physics Olympiad states that “University professors have taken this at school and "got nowhere”.”

Well done to George M-S (R, UVI), Peter Z (I, UVI) and Michael L (SH, UVI) who all received Gold awards. George has progressed to round 2 of the competition and has been fast-tracked to round 2 of the British Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, which were both three-hour problem-solving papers.

Meanwhile, all students in Lower Sixth had the opportunity to take the Senior Physics Challenge which is a similar problem-solving competition aimed at their year group. Fourth Formers will have the chance to take the Junior Physics Challenge later this year which is a paper aimed at GCSE-level students but also rewards those who read widely around Physics.
