Mathematicians celebrating results from British Maths Olympiad
January 19th 2024
Salopian mathematicians are celebrating their results from round one of this year’s British Maths Olympiad.
The paper comprises six questions that, although based on mathematical concepts with which they should be familiar, require a more nuanced approach. Scoring 10/10 on a question is an achievement in itself.
1675 students sat the paper across the country with an average score of 21. A score of 30 or more was worthy of Distinction for being in the top 25% overall.
Aidan K (S, UVI), Mico X (EDH, UVI) and Michael L (SH, LVI) were awarded Merits. Peter Z (I, LVI), with an impressive score of 37, was only seven marks from a medal (top 100 scores) and received a coveted certificate of Distinction.
Congratulations to all involved.
