The Salopian Club at Henley Royal Regatta 2024
It might have been one of the wettest Henley Regattas on record, but the Old Salopian contingent made the best of it both on and off the river.
Louis Nares (I 2015-20) and Grace Richards (G2019-21) were victorious for the second year running, winning the Steward’s Challenge Cup and the Remenham Challenge Cup respectively rowing for Oxford Brookes Boat Club. Louis’ crew narrowly beat Matt Rowe’s (SH 2015-17) Leander crew to take the cup.
There were memories of glories past as the crew who won the prestigious Special Race for Schools in 1984 reunited for a 40th anniversary row past on the Saturday.
Salopian Club Chairman Miles Preston also took part in a row past with his Leander Crew who won the Thames Challenge Cup 55 years ago in 1969.
Off the water there were plenty of opportunities for socialising and catching up with old friends. More than 200 people had lunch and a glass of fizz at the Shrewsbury School gazebo on Tuesday and Saturday.
The day before the Regatta the Old Salopian Golf Society and Sabrina Club enjoyed a round of golf and supper at Henley Golf Club.
Thanks to all the Sabrina Club volunteers especially James Russell for organising this year’s events.
