Two Shrewsbury pupils have been offered places at the National Youth Theatre (NYT).

Alice L (MSH, IV) and Old Salopian Freddie L (SH, 2020) will be joining current NYT member, Kate W (M, V) this summer.

National Youth Theatre was established in 1956 as the first youth theatre in the world. Its guiding principles are developing young people socially and creatively, teaching them to work as a team through an ensemble approach to theatre and creating positive social change.

Director of Drama, Helen Brown, said: “We are delighted that Alice and Freddie L have both been offered places in the National Youth Theatre.

This is a hugely impressive achievement, as the NYT is the country’s foremost youth theatre company, with alumni including Dame Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig and Matt Smith. They will take part in an intensive training course over the summer, after which they will be full members of the NYT and will be able to audition for future productions up to the age of 25.

Congratulations to Alice and Freddie!
