Rowers cover impressive distances in Christmas Challenge
The Boat Club had fantastic engagement through the holidays with their Christmas Challenge.
All age groups took part in a team challenge to rack up the miles and maintain the strength and fitness gained through the Michaelmas Term. Training on the ergo, running and gym all counted towards their mileage. As an additional incentive the coaches also undertook the challenge.
The total distance covered by the squads was the following:
- Senior Boys: 3191km
- Senior Girls: 2550km
- J16 Boys: 2500km
- Coaches: 2174km
- J15s: 1000km
Special mention goes to six pupil that covered in impressive distance of over 300km each: Oliver C (Rb, V), Tom R (O, V), Matthew L (O, V), Sandy B (Rb, V), Isabelle T (MSH, UVI) and Alice C (G, LVI).
Over the last four days of the holiday some of the Seniors attended the optional training sessions at the Boathouse and Bomere. With the river running fairly high it was great to be able to get time out in small boats at Bomere.
Also over the break, George S (SH, UVI) attended a GB potential camp in Nottingham that is geared towards developing the top athletes in contention for the Junior World Championship Team for July.
Seven pupils were invited to attend the Welsh Rowing development camp which sadly had to change to an online event.
