Jack gains new PB in 800m race
A Salopian has gained an impressive Personal Best time at the London Indoor Athletics Open 800m event.
Jack K, (Ph, IV) travelled to the Lee Valley Athletics Centre last weekend for what was only his second indoor event, where he ran 800m in 2.00.49.
The athlete was named the UK’s Number 1 Male U15 runner in 800m last year, when he crossed the line in 2.02.92.
Jack said: “I felt the race went quite well but it was more of a time trial, as the heats weren’t based off speed, so I found it difficult to get my pace right. I feel I did well overall in the race considering the circumstances, but felt I should have been a few seconds quicker - but I am happy with an Indoor PB
“I have been training mainly for cross country and long distance for the past 6 months, so my training hasn’t been specialised for track, but I have enjoyed it. Over the next few weeks I will be starting my track training for the summer which will help me improve my 800m a lot as I we have great running coaches in the school.
“My goals for this athletics season are to take my time from 1:58 down to 1:53 and I want to win the English Schools again in the summer, which I know will be hard considering the age group, but I believe I can do it.
“Through winning this event I would be able to represent England this year and that is my main goal for this year.”
Congratulations Jack!
