A Salopian has qualified for the World Duathlon Championships in 2023.

Harrison C (R, UVI) travelled to Oulton Park last weekend where he beat his PB by 90 seconds and gained 3rd place in his age category for the Sprint Duathlon, which saw him compete in a 4.3km run, a 20km bike ride followed by another 4.3km run.

Harrison C said: “The event at Oulton Park was the World Duathlon Qualifier for 2023.

“In preparation for this event I brought my static bike into my room to properly simulate the cycling leg and at the same time stepped up my running training, as well as experimenting with carb loading.

On the day of the race I was feeling confident due to the training I had put in. The race started with the first running leg which went smoothly and placed me top 5. Then it was into the 20km cycle which was tough due to my inexperience, but I had faith in my second running leg to help catch up for any lost time. On the final leg I climbed back through the ranks to eventually finish 3rd.

“Despite being confident that I had qualified, the following 40 minutes were suspenseful whilst waiting for confirmation and I was ecstatic to find out I am going to compete in Ibiza in 2023 for Great Britain.”

Congratulations Harrison!
