After winning the County Hockey Championships in the first half of term, our U14 Hockey Squad (Shrewsbury Emeralds) travelled to Nottingham to compete in the Midlands Round 1 England Hockey Competition.

Across the Midlands other Round 1’s were taking place. The top two schools from each zone would qualify for the Midlands Finals.

Qualifying for this Round 1 is not new territory for our hockey teams but qualifying for the Midlands Final – is a first in the school’s history.

At the Nottingham Hockey Centre on Tuesday, the U14s started strong with a 1-1 draw v Princethorpe – potentially our toughest competition. The squad found momentum in the second game with a 2-0 win over Newcastle under Lyme School. Our final game v Nottingham School finished 0-0, a frustrating game with opportunities missed and lesson learnt but fortunately we had done enough to secure the win qualification for the Midlands Finals this Wednesday 23rd November.

Shrewsbury Emeralds will compete against Ratcliffe College, King’s Worcester and Worksop in the Pool Stages before hoping to gain qualification for the Semi Final.

Matches will commence at 11 am at Rugby School.

Wishing the squad all the best this Wednesday!
