'A Positive and Promising start' to Shrewsbury Girls' Hockey season
The Michaelmas term has kicked off with great enthusiasm and success for the girls’ hockey teams at Shrewsbury School.
With over 120 girls representing the school across various age groups, from Under 14 to Under 18, the spirit and dedication of our players has been truly commendable.
Every Saturday, we have proudly fielded eight teams, showcasing the depth and talent within our hockey programme. So far, our teams have played an impressive 47 fixtures, winning 27, drawing 5 and losing 15, scoring numerous goals and demonstrating significant progress in both individual skills and team play.
Our Under 18 and Under 16 teams have already emerged as county champions, setting a high standard for the rest of the season. Additionally, our Under 16 B team competed fiercely against the Under 16 A team in the final of the county competition, highlighting the competitive spirit within our ranks and the strength in depth. The Under 14 team also put up a strong performance, finishing second in their league, narrowly missing out on the championship on goal difference.
Looking ahead, both our Under 14 and Under 16 teams have advanced to the Midlands finals, which will take place after the half-term break. We are excited to see how they will perform and are confident they will continue to make us proud.
Moreover, our Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, and Under 18 teams are still actively involved in national competitions within England Hockey and the Independent Schools Hockey competitions. Currently, our U15s are in round two, which will be played after half-term against the winners of The Grange School and Kirkham Grammar School.
Our Under 18 team has received a bye and will play their round two after the October half-term. Meanwhile, the Under 16 team will compete in the England Hockey competition on Wednesday, 16th October, away against Kings Macclesfield School in round two of the England Hockey Plate competition.
Overall, it has been a positive and promising start to the term, and we look forward to more successes and memorable moments on the hockey field.
