Sporting success celebrated at Shropshire Awards evening


A number of successful of Salopians were recognised for their sporting achievements at the Shropshire Schools Sports Association Awards evening.
The following students received recognition for their international representation in various sports:
Oscar Cooke (OS, O, 2019-24) - ISFA U18
Louis Croft (OS, I, 2019-24) - ISFA U18
Katie Hale (OS, MSH, 2020-24) - Rowing, Wales
Robbie L (S, LVI) - Rowing, Scotland
Tara L (M, UVI) - Rowing, Great Britain
Freddie O (Ch, LVI) - Cricket, Ireland
In addition to these individual accolades, Shrewsbury School continued its tradition of national success, securing the John Beswick Award for National Achievement – Boys Team for the third consecutive year. The 2025 award was presented to the Boys’ 1st XI Football Team for their triumph in the ESFA competition, where they defeated Samuel Whitbread Academy 3-0 at Stoke City’s Bet 365 Stadium. This follows victories in 2024 and 2023, when Shrewsbury won the National U17 Cricketer Paper Cup competition. Gordon S (I, LVI) and Isaac E (Rt, LVI) collected the award on behalf of the team.
The school also claimed the Derek Hayward Award for National Achievement – Girls Team for the second year in a row. This honour was awarded to the Shrewsbury School Girls’ Coxless Four, who secured Gold at the National Schools Regatta last summer. Tara L accepted the award on behalf of her crew, who have since left the school.
Shrewsbury School’s continued dominance on the national and international stage highlights our commitment to sporting excellence, and the evening was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes.
