With a week of events and competitions surrounding World Book Day celebrations, there was a great atmosphere in the library.

Daily competitions were held for all library visitors including wordsearches, ‘Guess the book title’ and, with a little input from teachers and their favourite books, ‘Who reads what?’. This challenge proved trickier than expected – the Shrewsbury teachers shrugging off classification to surprise everyone with their choices!

On Tuesday 28th February we welcomed Amy Beashel, Shropshire-based YA author, to talk to a Third Form English group. Amy spoke eloquently about her journey to becoming an author, fielded the excellent questions put to her and very kindly signed books. As well as inspiring our budding Third Form writers to get started, Amy also gave the pupils practical tips on how to fine-tune their writing skills, using Post-its and the Pomodoro method!

Our Manga Art Competition showcased some amazing talent inspired by iconic Manga characters and the winning entries will be on display in the Moser from Friday 10th March. Submissions were judged in year groups - many congratulations to our winners and all the excellent entries that we received.

Winners:

Sixth Form Prize: Mico X (EDH, LVI)

Fifth Form Prize: Grace S (G, V), Second Place: Jasmine C (MSH, V)

Fourth Form Prize: Thie S (R, IV)

Clockwise from left: Grace, Mico and Thie's winning work

Stop in next time you’re passing through the Quod to check out the entries and the originals that inspired them in our brilliant Manga and Graphic Novel section.
