Salopian headed Stateside for Rowing Scholarship
Congratulations to Amelia C (EDH, UVI) who this week received a rowing scholarship to Temple University.
Temple University is located in Pennsylvania, USA and has been the destination of choice for several Salopians in previous years.
Amelia will be headed Stateside in September and is looking forward to the opportunities that Temple has to offer.
She said: “As a new lower sixth entrant who had never picked up an oar before coming to Shrewsbury School and had been a competitive swimmer all my life, I never would have thought I would be heading off to the United States to row at Temple University.
“Joining the boat house in the Michaelmas term of 2021 made me feel welcome into the Salopian community and I have made friends for life. Not only did the boat house provide me with top facilities but head coach Mr Hundermark showed me the wider opportunities in the rowing world.
“Our new head girls’ coach Mr Docwra has pushed me and my teammates to exceed the potential we can achieve this season. He has adapted my perspective as an athlete to what one is and it is a mindset that I will take with me to Temple University and for the course of my life.
“Not only did I receive support from the boathouse in this process but the pastoral care both in house by my housemaster Mr Reynolds and my teachers along with the Futures Department.
“When at Temple I am most excited about becoming more independent, enhancing my rowing skills and meeting people from all around the world.”
