As the General Election fast approaches, the impressive level of political awareness amongst our pupil body was demonstrated when they put the candidates of the Shrewsbury constituency under scrutiny during the Shrewsbury School General Election Hustings which took place this Wednesday.

Hosted by two of our leading students of politics, Sydney S (MSH, UVI) and Dickie T (O,LVI), candidates from the Conservative Party, the Liberal Democrats, Reform UK and the Green Party took part in an evening of political discussion, taking questions from an impressively engaged pupil body from both Shrewsbury School and other local schools.

Topics covered included regeneration of Shrewsbury town centre, environmental policy, education and the future of the NHS. With the Labour candidate for Shrewsbury unable to attend at short notice, we were also extremely grateful that George Collings (Rb, 2022) was able to stand in and articulate his support of Labour so effectively.

We are also extremely grateful to the candidates for giving their time so generously, that generosity typified by their willingness to continue conversations with pupils long after the event had ended.
