The Saracens North Devon Tour 2024
Every year since 1926 the Old Salopian Cricketers -better known as the Saracens- have headed down to Instow Cricket Club for almost a week of cricket and camaraderie on the coast.
Around thirty people took part this year, some playing cricket, some supporting, some playing in the associated golf competition and some doing all three. The Salopian Club was represented by the current President Ben Duncan (SH 1965-70) (front row centre).
This year the golf was played at Westward Ho! on a very hot windy afternoon over an 18 holes Stableford Competition. There were 12 Competitors and 1 guest. The Winner was Nick Graham (M) with 38 Points. This was an excellent score, taking into account the windy conditions. Runner up with another excellent score was Arthur Garrett (Ch 2015-20) with 36 points and in third place was Will Mason (Rb 2009-11) with 33 Points. Our Guest Cricketer – Cameron Braan- played extremely well off a 7 Handicap and scored 37 Points.
It was good to see Old Salopians from several generations aged from 19 to 83 enjoying some rare sunshine, cricket, golf and beer together. Next year it's the Saracen's centenary and in 2026 the Club will celebrate 100 years of the North Devon tour.
