Remembrance Sunday 2020 - 'The School will not forget'

We will remember them. Today the school paused to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflict to preserve our many freedoms.

On Remembrance Sunday the school remembered the 580 Salopians and staff that gave their lives in the World War I, World War II and the first Gulf war.

At the Sir Philip Sidney War Memorial, a safely distanced short ceremony was officiated by The Reverend Alex Aldous. Wreaths were laid by the Headmaster together with Heads of School Finn Sansom and Imogen Jones. Second Master Mike Tonks also laid a wreath in the Masters Garden to remember those staff that gave their lives. In the stillness of an Autumn morning the last post and reveille was beautifully played by Kira Ward.

After the CCF colour party had marched away, additional poppies were placed at the base of a large tree close to the memorial, and these will remain there as a mark of our joint respect and gratitude to all the fallen.

Pupils gathered in houses for a safe ceremony to reflect on those house alumni that had made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Over the course of their five years at the School, each pupil will hear the names of all 321 Salopians killed in World War I and the 259 killed in World War II.
