Robert Raikes (I 1946 -51) undertook a Skydive over the summer to raise money to improve disabled access at his care home in Surrey.

The Reverend Raikes became concerned about the difficulty some of his fellow residents were having getting around at the College of St Barnabus, a facility for retired clergy near Lingfield. He was inspired by staff who had taken part in sponsored events to raise money and decided to follow their example.

In August he took part in a Tandem Skydive 12,000 feet above Headcorn airfield in Kent. He had never done anything similar before. So far he has raised about £35,000 to improve access in the grounds of the College for wheel chairs and walking aids.

Once safely back on the ground Robert said, “The Skydive was a most memorable experience: Notably through the expertise of the man to whom l was attached who, it turned out, had already jumped 3 times that day!”
