Issy Wong (G, 2015-2020) has been selected to tour alongside the England Women’s Cricket Team in New Zealand.

Although not officially picked to play, the Old Salopian will gain invaluable experience of training alongside the team and experience play in different conditions, which will no doubt be a great benefit to her bright future cricketing career.

Gwen Davies, Head of Girls’ Cricket, said: “We are all extremely proud of Issy, and everyone who has been involved in her cricket career here at the school are very excited for her.

“This is something she’s wanted since the age of 13 when she first joined the school, so for her to go on and be selected to travel with the team really is a dream come true for her.”

The England Women’s Cricket Team will play three IT20s and three ODIs against the New Zealand squad, known as the ‘White Ferns’, throughout February and March.

Travelling alongside the team will also stand Issy in good stead for getting picked to be part of the 2021 ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh at the end of the year.

Issy has been isolating at home before leaving for New Zealand on Sunday with the team, with the first match taking place on Tuesday, February 23rd at 1am GMT.

“The ECB website will be showing some of the build up to the matches and it will be shown on Sky or BT Sport, so there might be chance to see Issy training alongside the team,” added Gwen.

Congratulations Issy!
