Shrewsbury School boys’ team emerged as comfortable winners of both their semi-final and finals day before going on to represent the Midlands in the T20 Finals.

In their semi-final, Shrewsbury played the hosts Denstone College who batted first and after a reasonable start at 63-1 were then restricted to a below par score of 91-6. Shrewsbury spinners E. Prideaux (I, V) 2-14 and E. Clark (O, V) 2-12 were the most effective bowlers with the other 2 wickets taken by J. Home (Rb, V) and J. Proctor (R, V).

Shrewsbury knocked the runs off in 10.5 overs with O. Parton (Rb, V) 20, W. Jenkins (Rb, V) 16 n.o. and T. Wylie (Ph, V) 31 n.o. scoring the bulk of the runs. The other semi-final saw Leicester Grammar School narrowly defeat King Edwards School, Birmingham.

In the final, Leicester were dismissed for only 69 with Prideaux taking 4-14 off his 4 overs. Opening bowler Jenkins with 2-11 and 1 wicket apiece for Wylie, Home, Proctor and Clark were the other Shrewsbury wicket takers. They were well supported by wicket keeper O. Cook (PH, V) with 3 dismissals. Shrewsbury took just 11 overs to knock off the runs without losing a wicket. Home 37 and Parton 30 were the undefeated batsmen.

The team went on to represent the Midlands in this year's English Schools Cricket Association U15 Schools T20 National Finals at Arundel Castle on Sunday 5th September.

They beat Manchester Grammar School in the semi-final by 10 wickets, before going on to play Whitgift School who won with one over to spare. Congratulations to our boys' team for making it to the final!

  • Congratulations to the Girls' U15's cricket team who competed in the School Sport Magazine's National Finals against Clifton College. Despite narrowly missing out in the 3rd/4th play off against Reigate School, the girls put in a great effort and now have a well-earned break.
