The whole school gathered on a sunny autumnal morning to pay their respects at this year’s Service of Remembrance.

As half the school congregated in the Chapel, with the other half in Alington Hall, readings and poems were performed by pupils, as well as music from the choir.

At the Sir Philip Sidney war memorial, three wreaths were laid for all the former members of Shrewsbury School who have given their lives; one was laid by Headmaster Leo Winkley, another by the Heads of School Nick A (SH) and George C (G), and the final one by Professor T. A. Lister (SH 1958 – 62), President of the Salopian Club.

At the Staff Memorial in the Masters’ Garden, Mr Middleton, Acting Senior Deputy Head, representing the staff, laid a wreath to former colleagues who have given their lives.

After the Act of Remembrance, pupils and staff laid their poppies underneath the tree outside Main School Building, where they will remain for the forthcoming year in memory of those who have fallen.
