Salopian offered Higher Apprenticeship with German Engineering Firm
Congratulations to Finn P (Rb, UVI) on receiving the offer to work and study with an Electrical Engineering company.
Shrewsbury School has a longstanding tradition of sixth formers progressing to university following their A Level studies. While this is the right pathway for many of our leavers, we are also happy to support students with alternative routes to their chosen careers.
With this in mind we were delighted when were approached by a current parent and Old Salopian, Hugh Mainwaring, regarding an opportunity at 2G Energy LTD, an engineering firm, for a school leaver to pursue an apprenticeship at their German branch. After some initial conversations, current Upper Sixth Former Finn P (Rb), who is doing A Levels in Maths, Physics and German, was made aware of a vacancy to gain a Higher Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering with this company.
Finn excelled at the interview process for this role, where he showcased his incredibly impressive linguistic abilities and was offered the position.
Finn said: “When I first heard about this opportunity, I was very interested in it. The apprenticeship offers me the opportunity to gain hands on experience in an industry I am interested in and am looking to gain employment in the sector.
“I have studied German from Third Form through to A Level and I am intrigued by the culture of the country and the engineering history that it offers. The company itself appealed for a number of reasons. Firstly, the chance to gain a qualification alongside my employment, secondly the opportunity to further my interest in internal combustion engines and electrical engineering and thirdly the opportunities within the company moving forward’.
Head of Futures, Mr Wain added: “I am tremendously excited about this opportunity for Finn and do hope it encourages others to consider all of their options when they are making their post school plans.
“Finn will enjoy the benefits of a full-time wage and funded training as part of this apprenticeship, and once he has completed the qualification will have huge amounts of work experience compared to many of his peers. Additionally, 2G Energy have confirmed there will be roles within the company for him to progress into, which given the international nature of this organisation, will offer a huge range of cultural possibilities.
“There has been a significant increase in the number of apprenticeship opportunities for school leavers in recent years, and with this in mind we are hosting a talk on this topic on Tuesday 8th March at 7.30pm. Full detail please visit the event page.”
