It was a great pleasure to welcome Floyd Woodrow back to Shrewsbury after a period of 10 years.

Floyd gave a superb talk and presentation to over 150 Salopians and some of our outreach dedicated athletes. Floyd spoke about his Compass For Life (CFL) project in schools, which is doing amazing things to transform the lives and aspirations of thousands of young people every day.

The basic premise of CFL is based around a compass where the North Cardinal is your Super North Star or your ultimate goal (e.g become a Doctor, get an A in Chemistry, make the 1st X1 team etc).  The South Cardinal is the “Strategist” – how do you plan to get there and what is currently holding you back.  The East Cardinal is Ethos – knowing who you are and what you are willing or not willing to do to achieve what you want.  Finally the West Cardinal is the Warrior! Taking action boldly and passionately, developing resilience and preparing yourself to step in to the pressure zone.

Floyd explained the CFL very clearly, supported with great examples from the world of sport, the arts and business.  The talk was very interactive with lots of opportunities for us to discuss our compasses with those around us.  Floyd is a great speaker and he had the audience fully engaged for over an hour.  Many students remained behind to ask further questionse, and it is hoped that we will be able to get some of our students trained up to deliver the CFL project in local junior schools.

One pupil said: "It was a great honour to listen to such a distinguished speaker. Floyd’s talk was certainly one of the most captivating I’ve ever seen and I think that everyone who attended was left feeling inspired and empowered to follow the Compass For Life and reach their potential.
