Careers Old Salopians

We were delighted to hear that OS Finn Sansom was successful in securing the highly competitive and prestigious Morehead-Cain scholarship to the University of North Carolina.

The oldest merit-based scholarship of its kind in the US, it provides not just a fully-funded degree at UNC but amazing opportunities for development outside of the classroom.  Based on four pillars – scholarship, leadership, character and physical vigour, the rigorous process saw Finn go through three rounds of interviews and assessments, with fewer than 4% of applicants making it past the final.

Toby Percival, Head of Higher Education, said: “All at Shrewsbury were thrilled to hear of Finn’s success and share in his excitement of what lies ahead.  His natural leadership skills, notably as Head of School and Captain of Football, alongside his intellectual curiosity and genuine care for others, stood out during his time at school and I am glad that they were recognised by the selectors.  Hopefully, it will encourage others to broaden their horizons as they look towards life beyond the Moss gates, especially with the interest in US universities growing.”

Finn joins an estimable list of Salopians who have secured the Morehead-Cain scholarship and we look forward to hearing of his successes in the future.
