HR Apprentice promoted to Co-ordinator during business course
A HR apprentice at Shrewsbury School has been promoted to a co-ordinator role only part way through her course.
Katie Cooper joined Shrewsbury School to complete her Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration following a full-time business course at college.
Katie felt that an apprenticeship was the right route for her as she wanted to begin to put theory in to practice. She saw the apprenticeship at Shrewsbury School which offered training in both the finance and human resources departments, giving her the chance to test out both avenues. She applied, was successful and has loved every minute.
Katie said: “From the word go, everyone was so friendly and helpful. I have never been bored; I am given responsibility but know that help is there when I need it. I have loved the HR work and when my colleague notified that she would be taking maternity leave, I had the opportunity to apply to cover her job and was successful. I see my future in HR and there is a clear progression route for me to go on to gain a certificate in Personnel Practice and then the level 5 Diploma.
“I can gain a degree level qualification and be debt free, in fact I will have been earning throughout. I have now passed my driving test and have my own car. I would strongly recommend an apprenticeship as a route to a good career.”
Debbie Pender, Head of Human Resources at Shrewsbury School is full of praise for Katie.
“She is keen to learn, has good listening skills and her attention to detail is excellent. She is now working on a number of projects including supporting staff recruitment which in a school environment requires correct procedures throughout. I can trust Katie to see a job through and know that it will be to the required standard,” said Debbie.
