International and county appearances for Cricketing Salopians this summer
It’s been a great summer for Salopian cricketers, with two players making their international debuts and members of our girls and boys teams playing in county matches.
Theo W (O, UVI) and Rhys Lewis (Rt, 21-23) were selected for the England Young Lions side which faced Australia U19s and Ireland U19s at Loughborough University.
Theo struck scores of 150 and 111 and impressed with some economical bowling spells, while Rhys contributed with a highest score of 29, and best bowling figures of 2-56.
As a result of his performances for the Young Lions, Theo was selected for the England U19 side, making his debut at Beckenham against the Australian U19 side. He returned figures of 4-36, finishing as the pick of the England bowlers. In his third one-day international, he blasted a 27 ball 54, finishing as the top scorer as England beat their Australian counterparts by 4 wickets.
Theo is also playing today (Friday 8th) at Lords, as he represents ESCA in their prestigious fixture against the MCC Schools side.
To complete a memorable summer, Theo also put pen to paper on a rookie contract with Warwickshire CCC for their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign.
Elsewhere OS George Hargrave (2012-17) made history by hitting the highest score in the history of Shropshire CCC - 201 against Dorset CCC. He had earlier struck 115 in the first innings, and was rewarded with a call up to Derbyshire CCC 2nd XI where he struck a fine half century.
