Sixth Form students enjoy a visit to Oxford University Science Department
Twenty students in the Lower Sixth visited the Materials Science Department at Oxford University recently.
They took part in a tensile strength testing workshop using undergraduate-level machines and then used Excel to plot graphs of the material behaviour. Students enjoyed working in small groups for this and putting into practice the recent materials topic they studied as part of their A Level Physics.
After an admissions talk, tour and a picnic lunch in the park, they visited the Natural History Museum which was purpose-built as a science museum, taking inspiration from the traditional architecture of train stations and churches.
Students came away feeling well informed about the modules taught in a Materials Science degree and the breadth of the Sciences and Mathematics covered in the course.
It was a fascinating and inspirational day!
