Another successful season for Shrewsbury cricketers
As the school cricket season draws to a close, Shrewsbury's cricketers are celebrating another hugely successful season.
Theo W (O, UVI) has once again been selected to represent the England U19 side, who this summer take on the Sri Lankan tourists, while 1st XI captain Jack H (O, UVI) has featured for Worcestershire 2nd XI.
After the 1st XI girls and 1st XI boys both reached the semi-final stage of their respective national competitions, they were joined by the U15 boys who were crowned Midlands champions this week. Victories over Bedford and Uppingham saw them reach the national finals day, which will take place at the stunning Arundel Castle ground in September. Rufus D (SH, IV) claimed 2-11 in the final, before Harry P (O, IV), Arjan B (SH, III) and Jake VC (O, IV) all made key contributions with the bat. This victory completes the extraordinary feat of having three sides ranking in the top four sides in the country - an achievement unmatched by any other school.
This week has also seen the U14 boys lift the county cup, and they therefore progress to the national stage as U15s next year. James B (Rt, III) took the man of the match award with figures of 5-12.
The senior girls and boys have also been involved in absorbing two-day fixtures against Bradfield and Uppingham respectively, while our 1st XI boys head to Stowe School next week to contest the Silk Trophy.
