Impressive performances in the British Mathematical Olympiad
Three Salopians have received awards for their participation in the British Mathematical Olympiad.
Eight pupils sat the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 paper in December. The paper was much harder than those sat in recent years so even scoring a single mark was an achievement.
Eustacia F (M, UVI) and Sakunori N (O, UVI) both received Distinctions for their scripts and Jerry W (SH, UVI) a merit for his attempt. These were extremely impressive performances on problems that require a way of thinking far beyond the demands of the A Level course.
The British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 is a follow-on round to the Senior Mathematical Challenge. As well as challenging high-scorers from the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the British Mathematical Olympiad is an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competitions. Around 1500 students participate nationwide.
Congratulations to all pupils who took part!
