Pastoral Support Programme offers range of resources for Parents
On Thursday Shrewsbury School hosted an online event for parents as part of our parental pastoral sessions.
The online event, entitled Those Awkward Conversations, was hosted by Isla van Tricht who has delivered PSHE talks for five years across the UK.
The webinar was for parents with children of all ages and addressed how to have vital conversations with children and young people about pornography, sex and consent and offered parents the chance to anonymously ask questions to Isla.
One parent said: “For me it was one of the most honest and helpful [parent webinars] I have heard and with proper time allocated to answer real parent concerns. It is such a difficult subject for parents too but I want to thank Shrewsbury School for not shying away from it and for asking Isla who gave us some really practical and helpful advice on how to support our young people and approach the subject with them.”
You can watch the webinar below. Please note this will only be available until the end of February.
The event turned out be popular within the Salopian community and is the first of many in the series of parental pastoral sessions.
Coming up next is an in-person talk entitled Supporting your child’s ADHD on Monday, March 7 at 5pm. Shrewsbury School is pleased to welcome Colin Foley, the training director of the ADHD Foundation, the largest ADHD charity in Europe. After twenty-five years as a secondary teacher and senior leader, Colin’s work for the ADHD Foundation is grounded in empowering teachers to deliver outstanding outcomes for children and young people with ADHD through increased awareness of the condition and through practical classroom strategies that every teacher can use at all key stages.
In this session for parents and carers, we will explore the latest thinking on ADHD, including up to date research and how positive parenting approaches can support children and young people's development. The session will cover some of the most important concerns for parents and carers including sleep, diet, self-calming approaches, ADHD as a "superpower" and addressing anxiety.

Talks also scheduled to take place in the series is a webinar guide to alcohol, tobacco and drugs on Wednesday, March 9 and another webinar entitled ‘What Parents need to know about online safety’ on Wednesday, March 23.
