Shrewsbury
Busy weekend for rowers at GB Trials and Stourport Head competition
RSSBC had a busy weekend on the water competing in Lincolnshire and Stourport.
GB Trials
On Saturday eight Shrewsbury rowers took part in the Great Britain Early Identification Trials. The rowers travelled to Boston, Lincolnshire to join two hundred and fifty other hopefuls tackling the five kilometer stretch of the River Witham in single sculls. The event is the first on water opportunity for the rowers to show their speed. All the Shrewsbury crews safely navigated the challenge in the single and will be looking forward to returning in February to take on the same course in pairs.

Stourport Head
Eleven Shrewsbury crews compete at the Stourport Small Boats Head on Sunday. The event took place over a 3.7-kilometer stretch of the River Severn and provided an opportunity to some of the Senior rowers not competing in next Saturday’s Fours Head of the River the chance to race.
The morning division saw Senior Boys crews placing second in the Open Coxed Fours event and in the J18 Doubles event. The J16 Girls came third in the Girls J16 Quad event. Three J15 boy’s quads took to the water in the first official race for many of them and placed an incredible 1st, 2nd and 3rd out of seven crews in the event. Particular mention to the winning crew for recording the second fastest time of the morning.
In the afternoon it was the turn of a Senior Girls Quad, Girls J16 double and three J15 Girls quads to race. The crews came second in all three events with the second and third J15 Quads placing third and fifth in their event respectively in encouraging performance in their first external race.
