Shewsy trip full of 'enriching activities' for Sixth Formers
We're excited to share the highlights of our recent Lower Sixth trip to the Shewsy, where students embarked on a journey to explore health and community initiatives in the city of Liverpool and learn more about our partnership with the youth club.
The day was packed with enriching activities, fostering valuable insights and meaningful connections. The trip came to fruition on Tuesday, 6th February over the course of a single day, brimming with exploration and discovery.
The itinerary was thoughtfully crafted by our Shewsy partners to provide students with a holistic view of healthcare practices and community engagement in Liverpool. Beginning with a warm welcome at the Shewsy, a youth club with whom we have a rich history dating back to 1903, students were immersed in the ethos of "people matter more than things."
The day's agenda included visits to medical centres and institutions, offering unique insights into the medical landscape of inner-city Liverpool. From meetings with Dr. Simon Abrams at the Anfield Medical Centre to a visit to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, students had the opportunity to engage with medical professionals and learn about the diverse healthcare needs of the community.
A highlight of the day, however, was the interaction with the vibrant community at the Shewsy itself, where students witnessed firsthand the club's unwavering commitment to supporting and uplifting its members. This experience not only deepened their understanding of community resilience but also reinforced the significance of human connection in fostering well-being.
As the day drew to a close, students returned with a wealth of experiences and insights. They gained a deeper appreciation for the Shewsy's work and realised its profound relevance in the context of community support and solidarity.
Overall, the trip was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on students as they reflected on the value of empathy, compassion, and community engagement. We extend our gratitude to all involved and in particular Mr Kevin Brennan and Ms. Ana Pedraza who facilitated the trip. They all contributed to making this memorable experience possible and we look forward to future opportunities for continued exploration and growth with our partners at the Shewsy.
