Joy of Christmas Fair raises £5,000 for Shrewsbury Foodbank
This year’s Joy of Christmas Fair raised nearly £5,000 for a Shrewsbury Foodbank.
The fair featured a range of stalls, live music, food and drink and even a surprise visit from Father Christmas.
All proceeds from the event went to the St. Barnabas Foodbank Plus, where Shrewsbury School pupils volunteer on a regular basis.
Naomi Pritchard, Head of Charities and Volunteering, said: “The volunteering department have been working closely with the St. Barnabas Foodbank PLUS for over three years now. Every Thursday afternoon a group of students go to the Foodbank to help with stock control, labelling, bagging and give a lot of input on the operations side of things. This is very helpful in the leadup to the regular Friday rush and our students learn a lot about why the Foodbank exists and the clients that it supports.
“In addition to this, we are really proud of the work the school does in partnership with the Foodbank for the Christmas Fair. Behind the scenes are a dedicated team of parents, staff and students who work incredibly hard to ensure the Fair is a success. The atmosphere at this year's Fair is testimony to this. Many families commented on the sparkly, vibrant nature of the Fair which hosted more than 20 stalls including Christmas decorations made during Monday’s Art Society. Several talented musicians played upbeat, festive music and we had our very own Father Christmas (thank you Mr Kealy!).
“I am thrilled to hear that the Fair has raised close to £5,000 for the Foodbank PLUS this year and would like to wholeheartedly thank every member of the Salopian community who contributed towards this.”
