Concert Party delivers entertaining performances throughout the community
On Thursday afternoons, pupils take part in a variety of volunteering activities that benefit the community.
Zara B (MSH, V) and Sherene W (MSH, V) are part of the Concert Party, and have written about their experiences with the group.
“In Concert Party, we spend the beginning of the term rehearsing our pieces and the rest of the term delivering music to the elderly in care homes, primary schools and hospices.
“Our group consists of a few singers and instrumentalists, playing classical, pop and jazz pieces. We sometimes play pieces that the care home residents may know, for example Singin’ in the Rain. A few of the other pieces we perform include Amazing Grace, Talking to the Moon, Hallelujah, We’ll Gather Lilacs and Somewhere over the Rainbow.
“We also sing with the residents to get them engaged, they love listening to our pieces and singing to them.
“On Field Day, we went to a primary school and did two workshops with an instructor who taught us some techniques to deliver music more effectively. The teacher in charge of the activity is Ms. Turpin, who brilliantly leads the rehearsals and outings.”
