On Friday two J16 rowers travelled to London to take part in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships.

The event took place at the Copper Box Arena which was a multi-sport venue built for the London 2012 Olympics at the Olympic Park.

With thousands of twelve to eighteen-year-olds taking part, it made for a lively atmosphere in the Arena. Richard W (I,V) and Ben M (S,V) took part in the Year 11 Boys six-minute race against 65 other competitors.

Both boys produced fantastic performances placing first and sixth respectively out of a very competitive field.

Richard set a ruthless pace that only a handful of boys could match over the first two minutes before they started to fall back, with the margin increasing by the minute. He measured his pacing perfectly with near identical splits for the entire six minutes.

His win at this event combined with his win at the British Indoor Rowing Championships makes him unbeaten nationally in the two biggest ergo events of the year.
