On Sunday, 17th September, Shrewsbury School was buzzing with excitement as hockey players from around the region gathered to participate in a charity tournament.

The participants included players from Telford & Wrekin HC, Shrewsbury HC, Bridgnorth HC, as well as Shrewsbury School pupils and staff who all played in support of our international charity, Restart Africa.

The day kicked off with youthful energy as under 8s, under 11s, and under 14s competed in a vibrant festival located on our fabulous Kingsland Astroturf and the newly laid Radbrook pitch. The event saw the participation of 100 enthusiastic children, all playing their hearts out on the field, not just for the thrill of the game, but also to celebrate the life-changing work of Restart Africa.

In the afternoon, the atmosphere became even more electrifying as it was time for the adults to showcase their hockey skills. Once again, another 100 players came together for our mixed hockey festival, displaying sportsmanship and camaraderie on the field.

The spirit of charity was palpable throughout the day, and it was not just about playing a game. The event managed to raise a substantial £1,500 from player match fees, which will be donated to Restart Africa, a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Africa.

The day was not just about competing, but about coming together with a common goal: to give back and make a difference. We look forward to hosting more such events in the future.
