Shrewsbury
Broadening horizons and looking to the Future(s)
We were delighted to welcome Rachel, an admissions officer from Durham University, this week to speak to a rapt audience of pupils in the Barnes Theatre on applying to competitive universities.
With the majority of Salopians heading to Russell Group or World Top 200 universities each year, she offered a very useful explanation of the things both to consider and do when considering such applications. From taking an active interest in the super-curricular, be it reading, project work or listening to podcasts, to how to stand out in the personal statement, the messages were clearly well received.
In like measure, the Lower Sixth were encouraged to broaden their horizons in what they want to achieve, with Dr Brown providing an insight into the benefits of the co-curricular for future life; as part of their Futures Morning, the Fifth Form was given an introduction into the vast array of options available after Shrewsbury. The subsequent buzz has been a delight to see (and hear!).
