Salopian artwork decorates Shrewsbury streets as part of national exhibition
Students in the third form have had their artwork selected to be displayed throughout Shrewsbury as part of the Great British Art Exhibition.
Out of 900 entrants, six of Shrewsbury School pupils’ work was selected to be hung in the town. Images of their artwork have been made into flags by the ShrewsburyBID and are currently festooning the high street.
Head of Art, Lucy Caddel, said: “Sir Antony Gormley chose the theme for the whole country of ‘animals’ which suits Shrewsbury’s Darwin connections down to the ground! All third formers created a two-week gouache study of an animal and a selection of our very best were entered into the competition.”
Charlotte T (EDH, III) who painted the green parakeet, said: "It’s really cool that my work is flying above the high street - and people can’t believe it’s mine! All my friends and family are seeing it and they love it."
Our designs chosen by the BID team were by the students as follows:
- Charlotte T (EDH) - Green Parakeet
- Nyah W (M) - Flamingo
- Holly Y (M) - Blue Footed Booby from Darwin’s Galapagos
- Jess F (EDH) - Dragon
- Archie S (Rb) - Shark
- Lyla W (G) - Toucan
