Old Salopian raises more than £12,000 for three charities

An Old Salopian has raised more than £12,000 for charity by cycling 900 miles across the UK.
Guy Gowar (S, 2016-2021) cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats in May, raising an incredible £12,237 which will be shared across three charities which are of sentimental value to him.
Guy’s challenge is even more impressive a feat given that a year earlier, at the age of 18, he suffered a cardiac arrest. As ‘one of the lucky ones’, Guy benefitted from the quick response of a friend, trained bystanders and crucially, a defibrillator. His fundraising effort will go towards The British Heart Foundation, The Oliver King Foundation, whose aim is to increase the number of defibrillators in every school, and Kit4Kenya, a charity that combines his love of football and Kenya.
Toby Percival, Guy’s tutor added: “We are all amazed and inspired by the example Guy has shown after what was a traumatic incident. The fact he chose to embark on this gruelling challenge just 12 months after suffering a major heart attack is just one example of his positive, can-do attitude – he is an excellent role model and we’re immensely proud of him.”
Congratulations to Guy on this incredible challenge and fundraising effort.
