Two Old Salopians will be taking to the seas in a mammoth charity challenge across the Atlantic Ocean.

TEAM V3NTURE, a crew of three Army Officers, including two Old Salopians Rob Cross (S 08-13), Rob Treasure (I 09-14) and Charlie Newman will be setting sail in 2024 for The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an international event regarded as the world’s most demanding ocean rowing race. It is a non-stop 3000-mile voyage from the Canary Islands to Antigua in an 8m rowing boat, unsupported, over approximately 35 days.

Rob, Rob and Charlie met at Sandhurst and are serving in the Welsh Guards, Rifles and Royal Artillery respectively. Set to become the first serving military trio to row any ocean, they are hoping to raise £200,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and their regimental charities.

In 2021, Rob’s father, Stephen Treasure, lost his life to cancer. Stephen was a shining light in the Ludlow community. A cornerstone within the local building industry, he was respected for his outstanding knowledge and experience, having worked in the trade for almost all of his life before turning to the church when he retired.

Rob Cross said: “The money raised will directly fund Macmillan nurses, whose remarkable palliative care left a profound impression on Rob.”

On 1st April, TEAM V3NTURE is hosting a Gala Dinner at the Cavalry & Guards Club in London to raise funds for the expedition. Among the VIPs at the event is Mick Dawson, a former Royal Marine and the first man to row the North Pacific. More information on the Gala dinner can be found here.
