Old Salopians

The retirement of Nick Jenkins as Director of the Salopian Club has been marked with two events hosted by the Club, one in London and one in Cheshire.

Both have provided an opportunity to thank not only Nick but those who have served as Chairman, President or one of the other major offices of the Club during his time in post. The first was hosted by the Chairman Miles Preston (Db 63-68) at The Surprise in Chelsea on April 25th where Nick was joined by his three Old Salopian sons William (SH 99-04), Edward (R 01-06) and David R 03-08).

The second was presided over by President Elect Ben Duncan (SH 65-70) at the Fox and Barrel in Tarporley on May 10th. Both involved delicious food and drink, lively conversation and an opportunity to reflect on nine happy and successful years of Nick’s leadership. Nicholas Barber (SH 54-58) spoke in London and Peter Stewart (Ch 58-63), who first met Nick at the age of seven when they were at prep school together, spoke at Tarporley. Both paid tribute to Nick as a classics teacher, Housemaster of Oldham’s and good friend as well at the Director of the Salopian Club. Nick replied with his customary good humour and graciously accepted the same leaving gift twice in the two separate locations.

Everyone at the Club wishes Nick all the very best for a long and happy retirement.
