Portraiture and Prosecco Cocktails in SE21
Around 60 Old Salopians were treated to a private tour of the Dulwich Picture Gallery with one of the country’s foremost art experts and current President of the Salopian Club Desmond Shawe-Taylor (I1968-1973)
Desmond was the Director of the Gallery between 1996 and 2005 before taking on the highly prestigious role of Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures between 2005 and 2020. He talked through some of the highlights of the collection including Saint Sebastian by Guido Reni and famous works by Rubens and Rembrandt. The group were then free to wander around the gallery with Desmond on hand to answer questions.
After the tour, the OS group enjoyed supper and cocktails in the grounds of the gallery which was the first purpose-built public art gallery in the world. A perfect way to spend a warm summer evening in Dulwich Village.
