Old Salopians

Thirty members of the club, ranging in age from seventeen to eighty plus gathered in Henley-on-Thames for our now well established winter dinner.

Beef Wellington was the main course at this year’s dinner - and very delicious it was too.

With its illustrious 207 year history, and reputation as the most successful rowing club in the world, Leander Club was the perfect setting for an enjoyable and memorable dinner.

We were very fortunate to have as our guest speaker, Jacob Dawson, one of the gold medal winning Paris Olympics GB eight. Jacob spoke with great openness and clarity about his experiences during his highly successful rowing career. As I listened to what he said I was fascinated but, watching the reactions of the younger members present, I hoped and believed it was particularly inspiring for them.

We now move on to our full programme of events for the year, starting on 8th March and continuing until the end of September. I hope you will take part in as many of these as you can.

If anyone reading this report is not a member of the SDC but might be interested in becoming one, please look at our website. That will not only show you how to apply for membership but give you details of all our forthcoming events.
