Dance Exam Success for Kate W
At the end of the Michaelmas Term Kate W (M, 5th) took her ISTD grade 6 tap exam virtually from the dance studio in the Barnes Theatre.
Kate had been working hard towards this exam, originally planned for the summer and was finally able to take it through the virtual format in December. I am delighted that Kate’s hard work paid off as she passed with a merit and received a very good technical score.
Grade 6 is the equivalent to a GCSE qualification and Kate can use the UCAS points gained from this in her applications for further education.
The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) is an international dance exam board, established in 1904, who hold approximately 120,000 dance exams a year across all genres. I believe Kate is the first student to get an ISTD qualification through Shrewsbury School, so massive congratulations to Kate for this milestone.
I am really excited to see and be part of dance growing at Shrewsbury School. Having the amazing space of the dance studio in the Barnes Theatre has been a massive boost as dance now has a ‘home’. Hopefully we’ll see a lot more exams and showcases in the not too distant future.
