Academic News Fourth Form

Fourth Form English pupils were treated to a performance of A Christmas Carol in Barnes Theatre this week, and the pupils have reflected on the production.

Three of our Fourth Form English sets are studying Charles Dickens’ novella, A Christmas Carol, as one of their GCSE set texts. On Monday afternoon we were treated to a live performance of the story in the Barnes Theatre, as the Quantum Theatre Company visited to perform for our students.

With the script taken directly from the original text, the production used Dickens’ own dialogue and narrative passages to bring the book and its characters to life. The audience’s response was extremely positive with students telling us that they “loved how much they sang” and that they “found it very interesting how they changed characters so easily simply by changing a piece of clothing to signify the change.”

The favourite character was definitely Scrooge, who was “exactly how I imagined him to be in posture, accent and overall character.”

A little bit of Christmas in January for us, which cheered us on the way to the coach weekend!
