Academic News trips

We are planning to take a group of Salopians to Rome and the Bay of Naples in the October exeat.

The trip will be open to pupils in the current 3rd, 4th, 5th and Lower 6th Forms. We will be using the company Hellene Schools Travel, who arranged our last Classics Faulty trip to Greece in October 2015.

The dates of the trip will be Saturday 15th October to Thursday 20th October 2022 (the first week of the October exeat), flying from Heathrow to Rome on the way out and from Naples to Heathrow for our return.  We will stay two nights in Rome and then travel down to Sorrento where we will stay from 3 nights before returning home on the 6th day.

During the six day tour, we intend to visit many of the major classical and historical sites and museums of Rome and the Bay of Naples, including:

  • The Colosseum
  • The Roman Forum
  • St Peter’s and the Vatican Museums
  • Pompeii
  • Herculaneum
  • Tiberius’ Villa on Capri
  • The Naples Archaeological Museum

Having visited these sites previously, I can fully endorse their cultural, historical and intellectual merits, which will offer the pupils an excellent insight into Roman history.

Cost of trip and payment

The cost of the trip will be approximately £1,100 per person, based on 20-30 pupils going.  This will include half board accommodation, flights, coach travel and entry into all museums and sites.  Pupils will need to ensure that they have enough money with them to cover lunch arrangements (about £12 per day should be sufficient).

Please do contact me if you are interested in this this trip – it promises to be excellent.
