We are delighted to announce the appointment of Holly Fitzgerald as Director of the Salopian Club.

Holly will take over the role from Colonel Nick Jenkins, who has provided loyal and dedicated leadership, giving outstanding service to the Club for 9 years.  Nick retires with our deep gratitude and warmest wishes for a happy retirement.

Holly was educated at Clifton High School in Bristol and studied History at Oxford University.  She went on to enjoy a very successful first career in broadcast journalism.  More recently, Holly has worked as an executive consultant in the education sector, specialising in recruiting headteachers, deputies, development directors and marketing managers for independent schools since 2014.  Through this work, she has acquired an excellent understanding of independent schools.

Holly has valuable experience of a variety of voluntary organisations and is a school governor, chairing the Education Committee at Prestfelde School.  Holly is well-known to the Shrewsbury community: she is married to Paul, who is Head of Classics, and they are parents of an Old Salopian.

On her appointment, Holly said: “Having been a part of the Shrewsbury School community for the past 12 years, raising my family on the School site, I’m excited to bring my skills and experience to this important role and very much look forward to serving Salopians past, present and future.”

Miles Preston, Chair of the Salopian Club, commented: “Finding a successor to Nick Jenkins, who has done such sterling work for the Club for the last nine years, was never going to be an easy task but I am sure that Holly will be a fantastic replacement. I have every confidence that she will do the job brilliantly and will be popular with our members, of whom there are now nearly 8,000.”

Leo Winkley, Headmaster added: “All who met Holly through the selection process were unanimous in the view that she will bring an excellent combination of qualities to the leadership of the Club.  Her strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of the independent education sector, communications expertise and close-up insight into the School will all be invaluable in carrying out the role.”

Holly will take up her post on 20th February 2023 and will be working closely with Nick Jenkins and the Club committee to ensure a smooth handover.
