Shrewsbury School Community Football Tournament Supports Restart Africa
On Sunday 13th November, Shrewsbury School staff, parents and Old Salopians are competing in a football tournament to raise money for Restart Africa.
Restart Africa, our chosen international charity, has been linked strongly with Shrewsbury and Old Salopians since its creation, and its purpose of providing young people with a future harmonises with our school ethos and our drive to improve the life chances of children beyond the immediate community of Shrewsbury School.
Our global work with international charities has been something our community has whole-heartedly embraced and this will continue with Restart Africa, alongside our ongoing support of The Shewsy and the local Foodbank Plus, whilst integrating well with the wider spectrum of work undertaken by the whole school as part of our partnership and community engagement.
This weekend’s football tournament begins at 1.00pm on Top Common and promises to be an afternoon of great entertainment, community spirit, and fund raising. The Staff Football competition, now in its third year, has previously raised over £3,000 for charities, and we are hopeful that this expanded community tournament can raise funds for a very worthy charity.
As part of the event this year, there will be a prize raffle and a silent auction for parents and staff to participate in, with the results of the raffle and auction being announced on Thursday 8th December.
Items for the raffle include tickets to Australia Vs England Women's T20 at Edgbaston, a tennis lesson with an LTA coach, half day Spa passes at the Shrewsbury Club and many more. A full list of prizes and tickets for the raffle can be found here.
Items available for silent auction include; a signed Issy Wong England shirt, two tickets to a Manchester United game, a signed pair of match-worn boots donated by Dwight McNeil, Everton FC, a signed Everton shirt donated by James Tarkowski, Everton FC and England, and a framed unisuit signed by the gold medal winning GB VIII. Bids on the Silent Auction can be made here.
In addition to this, students will also have the opportunity to get involved through competitions that will take place during the half time intervals during both matches, such as a penalty shootout, Crossbar Challenge, and the chance to score a goal past a Semi-Professional goalkeeper.
All donations to this event would be hugely appreciated, whether that be a cash donation to the Justgiving page or the donation of a prize to the raffle or the auction.
