Salopian secures Rowing Scholarship to Rutgers University
Congratulations to Alice C (G, UVI) who has secured a Rowing Scholarship to Rutgers University.
Alice, who was selected to compete for Team GB at the Coupe de la Jeunesse Rowing Championships last summer, secured the scholarship last week to the prestigious Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
Alice said: “I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to start at Rutgers University in the fall.
“I chose Rutgers predominantly due to its exceptional achievements both academically and athletically; moreover, the welcoming atmosphere I felt on my visit, and its proximity to New York City.
“The application process began during the summer holiday between Fifth Form and Lower Sixth, when I filled out recruiting questionnaires for multiple US universities and had Zoom calls with the coaches. Fast forward to February half term in Lower Sixth and my father and I flew out to the US to visit Rutgers and UT; 2 weeks after returning to the UK, I verbally committed to Rutgers University, finalised by my National Letter of Intent signing on Wednesday.
“It would not have been possible without the support I have received from Shrewsbury School; from the rowing coaches who have helped me to excel in sport, to my teachers who have enabled me to reach the required academic standard, and my friends who have supported me throughout the whole process.”
Head of Higher Education, Toby Percival, added: “All of us at Shrewsbury are thrilled that Alice has secured a rowing scholarship to Rutgers.
“As a member of the historic Big Ten Conference and a NCAA Division 1 university, its athletic credentials speak for themselves and it will certainly an exciting time for her to join the roster as a Scarlet Knight. With her excellent performance at the Coupe de Jeunesse in the summer, she will be an excellent addition to the crew.”
